Stepping into Le Domaine du Prieuré felt like entering a peaceful oasis in the heart of Charente Maritime. The charming hosts, Laurent and Jean-Marc, made us feel truly welcomed, going above and beyond to ensure our stay was memorable. The well-equipped rooms, with premium bedding and modern facilities, provided a comfortable retreat after a day of exploring the surrounding verdant park and the Boutonne River.We indulged in the tasty cuisine at the hotel's restaurant, Les 10 versions de Lauren, enjoying the fusion of flavors that showcased the local fresh meats sourced from Sébastien Calleau, the butcher of Tonnay Boutonne. The breakfast, made of fresh village bakery products, was a delightful start to our mornings, served by the hosts themselves with a warm smile and a glass of water accompanied by Belgian lemon candies Napoleon.The tranquility of the historic building, dating back to 1847, and the attentive housekeeping service added to the overall relaxed atmosphere of the hotel. Safety features like fire extinguishers and smoke detectors ensured a sense of security, while the free Wi-Fi and bikes available for use allowed us to stay connected and explore the area at our own pace.Whether unwinding on the sun terrace, taking a stroll along shaded paths by the river, or immersing ourselves in the local culture at the Museum of Saint Jean d'Angely, Domaine du Prieuré provided a perfect blend of comfort and tranquility. As a sailor who appreciates the finer things in life, this hotel's attention to detail and serene setting left a lasting impression, and I look forward to returning with my loved ones for a longer stay next time.
